The undersigned Members of the Bar of the State of Illinois desire and would respectfully recommend Col: Robert Allen the appointment of U: S: Marshal for the District of Illinois aforesaid

A. Lincoln (If new appointment is made).

[1] DS, DNA FS RG 59, Appointments. Sixteen signatures appear on the petition, of which Lincoln's signature and endorsement are in fourth place. Lincoln must have signed this petition some time after his return to Springfield on March 31.
