[1]   ALS, Herbert Wells Fay Collection. John Connelley, whose name Lincoln misspells, was appointed register of the Land Office at Springfield in March, 1853.

[2]   This certificate and other documents drawn by Lincoln were filed in the case of Joseph Gingerich v. Isaac W. Evans, et al., Woodford County Circuit Court.
