I cannot go to Jonesboro. A. LINCOLN

Annotation

[1]   Copy, ICHi. This is the copy of the telegram which was received by Brayman at Springfield. Lincoln was attending court at Pekin. Brayman was the principal attorney for the Illinois Central Railroad, and it may have been in this connection that he wished Lincoln to go to Jonesboro. Lincoln's first recorded Illinois Central case (Illinois Central Rail Road v. McGinnis) was tried in the Champaign County Circuit Court May 25, 1853.
