Annotation
[1] AD, I-Ar. Only the amendment to the bill is in Lincoln's hand. The original bill introduced by William Carpenter of Sangamon County was entitled ``An act to incorporate a Company therein named,'' with names of incorporators left blank. On the third reading of the bill, December 22, Lincoln moved to amend the title to ``An act to incorporate the Sangamon Fire Insurance Company.'' The bill appears in Laws of Illinois, 1836, pp. 71-76, with Lincoln's title and the names of incorporators as listed in his amendment, with the exception of Nicholas Bryant, who was not named.
