Resolution Introduced in Illinois Legislature
Concerning the Incorporation of a Canal Company 
Resolved, That a select committee of five be appointed to inquire into the expediency of incorporating a company to construct a canal upon the valley of the Sangamon river, and that they report by bill or otherwise.
 House Journal, Ninth General Assembly, Second Session, p. 34. The resolution was adopted, and Lincoln was made a member of the select committee. On December 12, he reported a bill, not his own, to incorporate the Beardstown and Sangamon Canal Company (vide infra, Lincoln's amendment, December 12, 1835).
