[1]   ALS-P, ISLA. Kellogg was an attorney of Pekin, Illinois.

[2]   Kellogg wrote on April 4, asking Lincoln to ascertain why he had not heard from the patent office in regard to two deeds sent for recording---the deeds being from William Wilcox to S.M. Whipple for the right of Colburn's Improved Iron Pump to several states and territories.

[3]   Memorandum is as follows: ``Please examine this letter, and give me the desired information; and return this, to me with your own. A. Lincoln.''

[4]   The penciled notations are as follows: Top---``Pekin PO-D.G. Colburn patee. 3 deeds/Recd. March 4 48''; Bottom---``The above deeds were sent / Sent Apl 5 Pekin P.O. Ills.''
