Amendment Introduced in Illinois Legislature
to an Act for Relief of Incorporated Towns 
Strike out the second Section,  and insert the following---
SEC. 2. The collector of each county shall pay over to the President and Trustees of each incorporated town within his county one half of the county tax collected by him off of property real and personal within the limits of such incorporated town.
 AD, I-Ar. Lincoln wrote the amendment, which was reported from the committee on finance along with the bill. Bill and amendment were tabled.
 The second section in the original bill read as follows:
``Real estate situated in incorporated towns shall pay a state tax but shall not hereafter be taxed for county purposes. And it shall be lawful for the President &
Page 184Trustees of towns to assess such taxes on the real estate situated within the limits of their respective incorporated towns as to them may seem proper not exceeding one half of one per cent.''
