Resolution Introduced in Illinois Legislature
in Relation to Contested Election in Pike County1Jump to section

[December 17, 1839]

Resolved, that the final action upon the contested election from the county of Pike, [be] defered until monday next; and that the door keeper be directed to procure the attendance of George M. Hanson of Coles county by that time.

Annotation

[1]   AD, I-Ar. Lincoln wrote the resolution, but James T. Cunningham, representative from Coles County, moved its adoption, which was done. Oscar Love was seated as representative from Pike County on December 10 on the supposition that Richard Kerr had vacated his seat by removal from the state. Kerr contested the election and replaced his opponent on December 24.
