Naematoloma fasciculare but the color of the spore deposit and the inconspicuous pleurocystidia lacking a refractive content prevent assignment there.

41. Pholiota deceptiva sp. nov.

Pileus about 10 mm broad, campanulate with a conic umbo, expanding to plano-umbonate much as in Galerina triscopa, surface subviscid to lubricous but soon dull, dingy honey-yellow and drying pale
ochraceous.
Lamellae clay color mature, narrow to moderately broad, close,
adnate, edges pallid-fimbriate.
Stipe 1-2 cm long, 1 mm thick, very slender, equal, yellowish above,
very soon dark yellow-brown below, as dried evenly tawny overall (darker
than pileus), with an apical fibrillose annulus and a few fibrils or fascicles
of veil fibrils adhering below, apex pruinose.
Spores 7-9.5 x 4-4.5 /F, smooth, in face view ovate to elliptic, in
profile mostly obscurely inequilateral, wall not more than 0.25 /u thick,
apex slightly truncate from a distinct apical pore, bright cinnamon to
ochraceous cinnamon in KOH, about the same color in Melzer's reagent.
Basidia 4-spored, 18-23 X 7-9 Fx, subcylindric to clavate, hyaline in
KOH, yellowish in Melzer's sol. Pleurocystidia none seen. Cheilocystidia
abundant 30-50 x 7-12 Fi, fusoid-ventricose, thin-walled and hyaline or
near base the wall thickened slightly and ochraceous, fusoid-ventricose
and tapered to an obtuse to subcapitate apex or with one or more
absorted knobs near apex. Caulocystidia more or less similar to pleurocystidia. Gill trama of parallel bright ochraceous-rusty-walled hyphae 3-9
Fu in diam., walls scarcely thickened; subhymenium becoming cellular and
at gill edge conspicuously so with the cells bright rusty ochraceous-walled
in KOH and walls slightly thickened. Pileus cutis of appressed nongelatinous hyphae 3-6 Fu diam.; The hypodermial region, which has
cells enlarged to about 15 Fi in the wider ones, the walls bright rusty
ochraceous. Clamp connections present, all hyphae non-amyloid.

OBSERVATIONS: This species is peculiar because of the large cheilocystidia with the bright ochraceous slightly thick-walled cells at the base.
