An Increee of eighteencases of Influenza for the twenty-four hours endIng last night over the numbea reported
for the preceding day indicate that the
peak of the epidemic has not been
reached in the city.
Three hundred and eighteen cases
were reported to the city board of
health yesterday, against 300 Tuesday.
Dr. Herman G. Morgan, secretary of the
city health board, is still waging unrelenting warfare against the saread
of the disease and detailed a city
health inspector to break up the congregation of map in cigar stores and
poolrooms where they have been playing cards. Dr. Morgan's action followed numerous reports that,as many
as fifteen to twenty persons have been
athering at these places since the cloe-?bg order of the health board became
effective. In the interest of public
health such games must be stopped, Dr.
Morgan said.
Twenty-four deaths was the toll taken
by Influenza and pneumonia according
to phyiscians' reports to the health
board during the day. Only one case of
Influenza was ncluded, the others betog ascribed to pneumonia The health
official repeated his announcement of
the ban on permitting public funerals.
Anti-Spitting Posters Up.
Several hundred posters containing a
warning of the effects of spitting In promiacuous.Places in spreading disease
have been distributed by the board of
health among factories and other places
where the warning is likly to be most
effective. The public spitter Is being denounced by Federal and city health officials throughot the country, Dr. Morgan said.
The situation In the army schools Is
clearing, up satiafctorily, according to
reports. MaJ. J. Dalbey Crawfls, in
command of training detachments, said
that on account of the recent consolidation of detachments Nos. 1 and 3 with
detachment No. 2 at the State School for
the Deaf, figures for the detachments
moved Tuesday were not available. His
report of conditions at the Deaf School
detachment showed that three new
cases of influenza developed yesterday.
