Anthony Ashley Cooper, Earl of Shaftesbury, became Lord Chancellor in November of 1672, and had lost favor with Charles II by November of the following year when the King demanded back the seals of office. The Lord Treasurer was Baron Thomas Clifford. Cf. DNB.
