THE Government OF A WIFE.
A LETTER Written by D. Antonio de Guevara, Bishop of MONDOÑEDO, PREACHER, HISTORIOGRAPHER, And of the COUNCIL to the Emperour Charles V. To Mosen Puche of Valencia, touching the Behaviour of a Man towards his Wife, and a Woman towards her Husband.
That none should Marry, but with their Equals.
That a Wife must be very Modest, and not lavish of her Tongue.
That a Wife must keep House, and not expose her self.
That a Wife must not be Haughty, nor High Spirited.
That the Husband is not to be too Severe, especially when newly Married.
That Husbands must not be over-Jealous.
That if there be any Differences between Married People, they must not let the Neighbours understand it.
That Husbands be careful to furnish their Houses, with all Things necessary.
That Husbands must not carry suspitious Per∣sons to their Houses.
That a Wife ought to understand all Things, which appertain to House-keeping.
