- Lü Yisheng (吕艺生 b. 1937) was born in a rural family in Heilongjiang. At the age of 11, he joined the Northeast Forest Cultural Work Team. He was among the first group of students admitted to the Beijing Dance School in 1954. In 1957, he joined the Yichun Song and Dance Ensemble, where he served as a performer, teacher, Dance Troupe Leader, and choreographer. He served as Dean of the Beijiing Dance Academy from 1987 to 1996 and has published numerous books on dance education and theory. Here, we see Lü Yisheng with Siqintariha and Shu Qiao at the Lotus Cup conference.

Originally from Zhejiang, Shu joined the Xin'an Traveling Troupe (新安旅行团) in 1944 and moved to Shanghai with the Troupe in 1949.
