- In 1980, the China Opera and Dance Drama Theater 中国歌剧舞剧院) premiered a Chinese classical dance drama called Sword (剑). Inspired by the Gansu Song and Dance Ensemble's 1979, Flowers and Rain on the Silk Road (丝路花雨), it is set in the Middle East. In this work, Fang Bonian (方伯年 b. 1936) and Zhao Qing (赵青, b. 1936) played the leading roles. It was made into a film in 1982.
