Jin Huilian (金惠莲/김혜련) graduated from the dance school of the world-renowned Korean dancer Choi Seunghee (Sai Shōki/Ch'oe, Sŭng-hŭi/최승희/崔承喜, 1911-1969) in North Korea. In 1948, Jin was a teacher and dance troupe leader at the Yanbian Song and Dance Ensemble (延边歌舞团), where she became an early teacher of Cui Yuzhu, the dancer who contributed this photo. In 1950, Jin performed the solo dance "Carrying a Rack on the Back" (背夹舞) at Huairen Hall in Beijing for the National Dance minority cultural work troupes tour. Jin was responsible for adapting the dance from a Korean work.

Description
This photograph shows the female portion of a group dance piece choreographed by Zhao Dexian and first performed in 1951. It is based on a Korean folk dance celebration called "nongluo" (农乐) that uses hand drums and hats. Zhao was the first to study and adapt this style of dance for the PRC concert stage. In 1994, this dance was named one of the canonical works of Chinese dance of the twenteith century.
