Henry Raynor of Syracuse, New York, was a stockholder and commissioner of railroads such as the Auburn and Syracuse Railroad and the Syracuse and Onondaga Railroad. In the early 1850s, he corresponded with John Gardiner (1816-1915) of Norwalk, Ohio, a Connecticut native who moved to Ohio in 1833 and became a bank clerk and merchant. In 1847, Raynor helped establish the Norwalk branch of the State Bank of Ohio, and he was a founder of the Norwalk National Bank and the Toledo, Norwalk and Cleveland Railroad. He married Frances Mary Joslin on July 31, 1843, and they had four children: Edmund G., John, Jr., Lucy Jane, and William L.
