Biography

Joseph W. Hall (born c.1840) enlisted as a private in the New York 113th Infantry (Albany County Regiment) under Colonel Lewis O. Morris on August 9, 1862. In December of that year, the regiment became the 7th New York Heavy Artillery, with Hall assigned to Battery B. He was promoted sergeant on March 18, 1864. In November 1864, his regiment joined the Army of the Potomac's 2nd Army Corps. He fought at Spotsylvania Court House (May 17-21, 1864), Cold Harbor (June 1-12, 1864), Petersburg (June 16-23), Ream's Station (August 25, 1864), and Hatcher's Run (February 5-7, 1865). His regiment defended Baltimore from February to June of 1865. Hall mustered out with the rest of the regiment on August 1, 1865, and was honorably discharged.
