Henry's illness continues to worsen. She will send a black doll home for Agnes. Henry occasionally requests that she leave him there to die.

Offers sympathy for Agnes's current situation. Provides news of the Leeds children, including the younger Agnes's proficiency in reading. The younger Henry believes the black doll is intended to be a servant to the other dolls.
