Louis Hasbrouck was born in Ulster County, New York, on April 22, 1777, the son of Joseph Hasbrouck (1744-1808) and Elizabeth Bevier (b. 1749). His siblings included Abraham, David, Joseph, Philip, James, and Luther. Louis studied law in New York City and settled in Ogdensburg, New York, after being admitted to the bar in 1801; he oversaw legal affairs of Stephen Van Rensselaer (1764-1839). Louis and his wife, Catharine Banks (1777-1862), had multiple children, including Louis (1814-1880), Sarah Sophia, Louisa, and Jane. Louis Hasbrouck died on August 20, 1834.
Louis Hasbrouck, Jr., and his first wife, Louise Seymour Allen, had three children: Louis, Philip, and Harriet. After Louise's death, he married Sarah Maria, and they had three children: Levi (1851-1927), Bevier (1853-1870), and Laura Maria. Levi Hasbrouck and his wife, Helen Franchot (1880-1931), had at least one son, Louis.
