Biography

Corporal Albert F. Gudatt was born on March 15, 1875, and lived in Victoria, Texas. He enlisted in the United States Army in May 1898, and trained briefly at Covington, Louisiana, before his deployment to Cuba as a member of the 2nd Volunteer Infantry Regiment (the "Second Immunes"). After being mustered out in June 1899, he re-enlisted and joined the 33rd Volunteer Infantry Regiment, with which he served in the Philippines until receiving a discharge in March 1901. In November 1901, he joined the Manila police, and in late 1902 he returned to the United States, where he worked for the Market Street Railway in San Francisco.
