Biography

Pierre F. Boname was born in 1833 in France, where he inherited a love of the arts from his father, C. A. Boname. He emigrated to New York City, and found work as a clerk for a merchant firm. In 1872, he started his own retail business, and eventually established himself in the hardware industry, often using the name "Peter." In 1877, he moved to Newark, New Jersey, and, a year later, married a woman named Victorine (b. 1843). His sister Louise emigrated to the United States in 1865, and, after living with her brother in New York City, she moved to Philadelphia, where she worked as a governess and teacher.
