Lawson L. Lindberg was born on February 13, 1920. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in December 1941, and trained at the Marine Corps base in San Diego, California (December 1941-April 1942); at Camp Elliot, California (April 1942-July 1942); at New River, North Carolina (July 1942-August 1943); and at Camp Pendleton, California (August 1943-January 1944). From January 1944-October 1945, Lindberg was stationed in the Pacific Theater with the 4th Marine Division. He and his second wife, Elsa Kunze (addressed variously as "Dorothy" and "Dottie") of Saint Louis, Missouri, were married on August 27, 1942.
