1800 April 11. William Vousdan ALS to Winthrop Sargent; St. Catherine's Township, [Mississippi Territory].
Requesting advice regarding the near-fatal beating of a Native American by Reubin Jones. Notes that the party of Native Americans was reported to have been drunk and trespassed into a white family's home where the victim reportedly try to kill the owner with an ax. Vousdan tried to arrest Jones, but he has fled. Fearful of Native American retaliation, especially as a large party is nearby and has been illegally supplied with liquor. Requesting an interpreter to help interrogate the Native Americans to discover more about the incident. (Original in Native American History)
