Isaac Chauncey papers 1801-1818
Melville Comstock Selleck was born in Buffalo, New York, on January 1, 1895, the son of Franklin Selleck and May Comstock. He had two siblings, Marge and Lawrence. Before World War I, he worked for the Meyers Motor Company in New York City and for the International Time Recording Company in Buffalo, New York. In the summer of 1917, Selleck enlisted in the United States Navy. He trained at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center in Great Lakes, Illinois, from August-October 1917, and served on the SS Sierra and the USS William Isom during the war. After the war, he served on the USS South Bend , the SS Winchester , and the SS Susquehanna . Selleck returned to Buffalo after January 1921, where he lived with his wife Caroline and their two children, Sally Ann and Edward.
