This history was designed as a continuation of the following work: Smollett, T., and David Hume. The History of England, from the Revolution to the End of the American War, and Peace of Versailles in 1783..: Designed as a Continuation of Mr. Hume's History. Six volumes of King George III's correspondence typescripts, dating 1760-1783, have been published: George III, King of Great Britain, and J. W Fortescue. The Correspondence of King George the Third from 1760 to December 1783: Printed from the Original Papers in the Royal Archives at Windsor Castle. London: Macmillan and co., ltd., 1927-1928.

The Clements Library holds a 22-volume collection of typed copies of King George III's incoming and outgoing correspondence between December 1783 and 1810, compiled by Sir John William Fortescue: King George III typescripts.

Many manuscript collections in the Clements Library contain correspondence of King George III, including items not appearing in Fortescue's volumes. For example:
