The collection consists of materials both generated and collected by Wright documenting his work and research in the areas of Michigan civil rights, racial discrimination, and mental health, particularly at the Caro, Michigan, Regional Mental Health Center. The Articles cover a wide variety of discrimination for African Americans and other ethnic groups. Of particular note is an article about Malcolm X’s widow, Betty Shabazz, and their daughters.

Biography:
Harry Wright earned a Ph.D. from the College of Education, in Counseling, from Michigan State University (1988), a M. A. from Eastern Michigan University (1970), and a M. in Divinity from McCormick Theological Seminary (1958).
From 1958 to 1966 Wright served as an assistant minister at two United Presbyterian churches in Detroit, Michigan. He then worked as a community relations representative and complaint investigator for the Michigan Department of Civil Rights in Lansing, Michigan, 1966-1976.
Since 1966 Wright has taught as an Adjunct Instructor and worked as a Therapist at a number of Michigan institutions and facilities. He also worked as a Clinical Psychologist at Caro Center Psychiatric Unit, Michigan, 1979-1992. Wright’s Ph.D. thesis was based on his statistical research there, concerning the use of restraints and seclusion to control unruly mental health patients. In 2005, Mr. Wright resided in Traverse City. Michigan. He was both a licensed psychologist and a certified social worker in the state of Michigan.(This information is from the collection.)
