History

Organizational History:

Originally called Rotary Club of Mount Pleasant-East, the Sunrise Rotary Club was organized on April 27th, 1972 as part of District 631 of Michigan. Shirley W. Bragg was the first Club president, while Joseph Huston served as the first vice president.

The Club involved itself in a variety of projects and events to help people and raise funds for its various activities. Some of the earliest projects were the apple project, circuses, and radio auctions. The emphasis of the Club, however, was helping children. Over the years, the Club sent children to summer reading clinics at Central Michigan University, supported the Isabella County Soup Kitchen, Hospice, and Christmas Outreach, helped fund scholarships, leadership camps at Camp Rotary and Boys’ and Girls’ State, the Kids and Kindness program the Youth Service award, the Isabella County 4H Camp Assn., the Adopt a Highway program, and the Sunrise Reading Program. In 1996 the Club started its Annual Golf Outing.

The Club disbanded by October 2003. (This information is from the collection.)
