History

Biography:

L.D. (Leroy DeForest) Satterlee was born on November 13, 1891, to parents Ethan G. Satterlee and Christy Satterlee in Saginaw, Michigan. He attended high school in Battle Creek, Michigan. Leroy was employed as a Clerk in Detroit, Michigan, 1917, and a topographical surveyor by 1920. However, his passion was his research and authorship on guns and gunsmiths. Among some of his works are A Catalog of Firearms for the Collector, Ten Old Gun Catalogs for the Collector, American Gun Makers, and Fourteen Old Gun Catalogs for the Collector. Leroy spent a lot of his time traveling the United States in pursuit of his research. No death date is available, but by 1967, Mrs. Leroy D, Satterlee renewed copyrights on his publications so he was probably deceased by then. (Birth date and additional biographical information are from Ancestry.com.)
