John C. Hepler (1913-1993) earned a B.S. from Shippensburg State Teachers College, Pennsylvania, in 1935 and both a M.A. and Ph.D. from Peabody College in 1937 and 1944, respectively. He taught at Central Michigan University (CMU) from 1946 to 1976 and was chairman of the English Department from 1958 to 1968. After retiring from CMU with emeritus status, Hepler worked as a freelance writer. Copies of three books by Hepler including Muted Voices from the Past, are in the CMU libraries.
