History

Organizational History:

Consisting of nineteen members, the Tau Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, an international society of female educators, was founded on November 17, 1948, in Midland, Michigan. Today the chapter serves the Alma, Beal City, Chippewa Hills, Coleman, Mt. Pleasant, and Shepherd area, and seeks (1) to unite women educators in spiritual fellowship; (2) to honor women’s distinctive service in education; (3) to advance the professional interest and position of women in education; (4) to sponsor and support education legislation and legislation in the interest of women educators; (5) to endow scholarships and grant fellowships to women educators; (6) to stimulate personal and professional growth; and (7) to inform the membership of current economic, social, political, and educational issues.
