Biography:

Robert A. Chaffer (1930-) earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Illinois State University, and his Ph.D. from the University of Missouri. From 1970 to 1974, Chaffer held the rank of Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Central Michigan University. From 1977 to 1980, he served as the secretary treasurer of the Department of Mathematics Faculty Service in the Michigan Section of the Mathematics, later Mathematical Association of America. From 1985 to 1988, Chaffer served as the Director of the high school visiting lecturer program. He was the newsletter editor for the Department of Mathematics. Chaffer served as assistant to the chairperson beginning in 1990, until he was appointed chairperson of the Department in the fall of 1995.
