History

Organizational History:

The School of Business Administration was established as a department with the merger of the Department of Commerce and economics courses at Central Michigan University (CMU) in 1961. Dr. Claude Love was the first department head. He had previously served as the head of the Department of Commerce (1947-1961) and as professor of commerce in the Department of Education (1941-1947).

From 1920 to 1947 the Department of Commerce existed as part of the School or Department of Education. Dr. Frank E. Robinson taught the first commerce courses at CMU in 1918 and 1919. As of 2000, the School of Business Administration offers its graduates a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. (This information is from CMU Course Bulletins.)
