Scope and Content:

The Isabella County chapter records include meeting minutes, annual reports, correspondence, financial records, fund-raising campaign materials, scrapbooks, and miscellaneous relating to the chapter’s operations and activities, 1917-1979. Four Red Cross uniforms that were donated with this collection were transferred to the Central Michigan University Museum in October 1976.

Organizational History:

Established by charter in 1917, the Isabella County, Michigan, chapter of the American National Red Cross seeks to achieve the aims of the national organization on the local level by 1) providing volunteer blood services; 2) conducting various community services; 3) serving as an independent medium of voluntary relief and communication between the residents of Isabella County and those serving in the armed forces of the United States; and 4) maintaining a system of disaster preparedness and relief. Once independently funded by voluntary contributions, the chapter is now financed by the United Way program.
