New to the Collection in early 2007; Civil War Letters and related photos will be added to the Diaries from the collections at the Western Michigan University Archives and Regional History Collections.

The WMU United States Civil War Collection image database and supporting web pages are being completed during early 2007. Please visit again for all 8 diaries, biographies, 'about this grant' pages and complete image viewing. The current collection consists of 8 diaries from the mid 1860s by men with connections to Michigan and the Midwest, regimental or residence, and represents diverse military experiences, ranging from a musician to a prisoner of war situation.The handwritten originals have full transcriptions that are searchable with subjects.

Of note, this collection is coded for browsing by categories: Battles, Military Units and Maritime Vessels, People, Places. Select 'Browse,' and 'Browse by Name.' For more subject categories: African Americans, Clothing, Death and Casualties, Desertion, Food, Health and Medicine, Leisure, Money, Music, Religion, Transportation. Select 'Browse,' and 'Browse by Topic'.
