"Roman Vice"/"Roman Morals" note.

(Jerome's larger work, left unfinished, was titled "Roman Vice" but he was persuaded by publisher George Putnam that a less sensational title might be more suitable, so Jerome called his work "Roman Morals." Most manuscripts bearing the title "Roman Vice" were handwritten (except in a few instances). These were arranged together. Items labeled "Roman Morals" were also grouped together. Comparison of the hand written and typed manuscripts in both sections will reveal that the contents are the same.)
