We four, priests of Tebtynis in the division of Polemon, who guard the two sluices aforesaid swear by Tiberius Caesar Augustus Novus <read: Novus Augustus> Imperator, son of the deified Augustus, that we will each guard his own sluice in addition to all expenses and attend it every hour so that no loss may ensue; and if any collapse or break should occur, we ourselves will be responsible for all damage that follows. If we swear truly, may it be well with us, but if we swear falsely, the opposite. Apion, the village nomographos, wrote for those who are illiterate.
