- Copy of a contract for right of occupation (enoikesis) from a volume of the dossier (eiromenon) of Karanis. The ninth year of the Emperor Caesar Nerva Trajan Augustus Germanicus Dacicus . . . Gaius Longinus Longus, [former] cavalryman, about 74 years old, with a scar on the left side of his chin, acknowledges to . . . son of . . ., about 51 years old, with a scar beside his left ear, that he has received from him at once from hand to hand out of the house the capital sum of . . . hundred silver drachmai, and in place of interest on them he agrees that . . . shall occupy for five years from the aforesaid ninth year (the premises) which the son of the acknowledging party, Longinus has held . . . right of occupation (enoikesis) from Pausis, son of Orsenouphis, . . . fifty-nine square cubits . . . of which the adjacent areas are on the south the royal road, on the north the lots of . . ., on the west the house of Horos, on the east . . . He makes the guarantee. After the period of the loan, he will repay the money . . . and for the expense and/or repairs . . . Longinus shall dwell in the house . . . every tax for seven months . . . The rest in accordance with the contract. Subscriptions.
